This is a continuation of Hike #2: Sentiero Abruzzo: Monterosso al Mare to Vernazza.
After we finished a delicious lunch in Vernazza, we were headed back on the Sentiero Abruzzo (Blue Trail). You go up a set of stairs, meander near some picturesque homes built into the rocks and the look back view of Vernazza is simply stunning…

That’s what we call in Texas a century plant. Interesting!
This leg of the hike is a better calorie burn. There are quite a few stairs (but not too bad)…

We kept hiking and you can see relatively early on the next town, Corniglia…

This leg of the hike definitely felt more mountainous…

There are multiple spots to view the gorgeous town of Corniglia on the hike…

And here’s a video from this spot on the trail…pretty amazing huh?…
As you can see, Corniglia is the only Cinque Terre town not on the water. We mosied into town and, as you’ve probably realized, I’m a sucker for cool alleyways…

I found this historic church and compelling statue to be interesting. It’s in the smack-dab middle of town…

And this one as well. Notice the fluffy photobomber…🐶…

We stopped by the local gelateria and had some amazing gelato. 🤤…

We then walked behind the Oratorio dei Disciplinati di Santa Caterina where some spectacular views awaited…

I know you want a full breadth of this view, so how about a video?…
Stunning views, man.
As mentioned in our Hike #2 (linked above), we elected to save the Manarola and Riomaggiore hikes for whenever the Manarola to Riomaggiore leg of the hike was available again. We’ll be back soon! So we made our way down, down, down the steps…😂…😬…

Total Distance/Time: 1.7 miles in 1 hr
Calories Burned: 600 (Estimate; I was an idiot and left my watch charger in the U.S. No Pixel Watch charger in Europe 😕)
Trail Type: Point-to-point
Trail Features: Steps, mountain views, historic city views, coastal views, wildflowers
Best Time to Hike: April-May
Difficulty Rating: 7/10
Trailhead Coordinates: 44.1345893, 9.6852804
Trail Tips:
- Slippery When Wet: If it’s wet, be careful! The trail can get slippery in places… and also pools of water can form on the trail.
- Parking: Park in Monterosso al Mare, even if you’re staying in Riomaggiore. Parking is extremely limited in Cinque Terre. The parking lot in MaM is quite large and close to the beach. Go early because it can fill up quickly.
- Flower Bloom Time: Go in mid-April and you’ll see some beautiful flowers in bloom.
