Every year, I tentatively plan out the hikes I’d like to do for that year. Of course, my list is quite fungible and ever-evolving. This will likely change. So where are we tentatively planning to hike in 2026? Well, we have some ideas…
-
- Arizona & New Mexico (February 2026): A trip to Santa Fe (NM), Sedona (AZ) and Taos (NM) is planned for late February. We’re planning to catch at least a couple of hikes in nearby areas while we’re there. Maybe the crowds will be lighter in Sedona? We will see!
-
- Havasupai Reservation (May 2026): Frankly, this has to be one of the most beautiful areas in the United States. There are five waterfalls and quite a bit of hiking in between. The reservation system opens up in late January and fills up within a few days. We happened to be on the mailing list and I pounced! We aim to bring the JeauxPro and capture Mooney Falls and Beaver Falls, the two most prominent waterfalls in the area.
-
- North Carolina (October 2026): A celebratory time for us, :-), we will aim to catch some of the remaining hikes on the list in western North Carolina near Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock.
-
- Texas: Yes, I still have hikes on my bucket list in my state. It’s a huge state!
The two elusive hikes in Texas for me are Palo Duro Canyon (near Amarillo) and, in the totally opposite direction from me, Seminole Canyon near the U.S./Mexico border. [Update: Yeah ummm… maybe in 2026 instead? Haha]
